SickKids Foundation Won't Stop Until Every Child Is Healthy

Nov 03, 2021

Since 1875, The Hospital for Sick Children Foundation has been fighting to make every child a healthy child.

MISSION
The mission of SickKids Foundation is to inspire our communities to invest in health and scientific advances to improve the lives of children and their families in Canada and around the world.

It was part of the initial group of organizations to receive the Imagine Canada Standards Accreditation in the first year of Imagine Canada’s Standards Program.

Donor support is a critical source of funding and in recent years has accounted for about 10 percent of overall funding support at the Hospital.

These funds support:

Research: In 2020, SickKids Research Institute had 1,752 research staff and 2,827 research trainees. SickKids Foundation helps to fund the New Investigator Research program, which supports health researchers in their early careers. Since 2001, the program has funded researchers across 45 health centers in Canada.

SickKids Foundation also funds the SickKids Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis program, which aims to cure deadly food allergies, as well as the SickKids Program for Individualized Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Therapy.

Patient Care: SickKids Hospital is Canada’s most research-intensive hospital and its largest children’s health center. In 2020, the hospital received 315,546 ambulatory visits and 77,212 emergency visits. It also admitted 16,249 patients and performed about 12,000 surgeries during the year.

Education: SickKids Foundation funds Community Conference Grants for events that promote knowledge sharing between health professionals, community groups, and families of patients.

Help Build a New SickKids
In 2015, SickKids Foundation began the biggest fundraising campaign in Canadian healthcare history, to build a new SickKids Hospital and Patient Support Centre in downtown Toronto.

The new hospital will house critical care and inpatient units, including a neonatal intensive care unit and a bone marrow transplant unit. The building will also add 437,415 square feet to SickKids.

Help build a new SickKids Hospital and help SickKids save lives, find new cures, and provide world-class care.
