What payment processing capabilities does iATS offer nonprofit organizations?
iATS offers a complete suite of transaction processing capabilities that are integrated with all of the major online fundraising and marketing software platforms. iATS supports all major credit cards and Automated Clearing House (ACH) for electronic funds transfer (EFT) allowing constituents to donate to an organization on a one-time or recurring basis. In addition, iATS offers web access to account information and reports about your transaction activity and details via our online customer portal, available to you at no additional cost.

How secure is the iATS system?

Visa, MasterCard, American Express and other card associations mandate that merchants and service providers meet certain standards of security when they store, process and transmit cardholder data.
How much will my organization have to pay iATS to be PCI compliant?
Enrolling in a PCI compliance program can assist in reducing the exposure of a non-profit from malicious theft of data and the associated reputational damage to your brand. In the unlikely event of a potential loss of data incident, compliant organizations that can demonstrate that they exercised reasonable controls to protect their donors information are in a better position to lessen or avoid potential fines. Those that cannot demonstrate the engagement of reasonable controls are more likely to be subject to costly fines and negative media attention. What if my organization is already PCI compliant?
If your organization has already achieved PCI Compliance certification through another provider, simply provide us with your proof of PCI certification within 30 days of being charged the annual fee, and we will request a credit on your behalf.
Can I process transactions remotely?
Absolutely. iATS Payments' services are web-based so you can process transactions 24/7 wherever you have a computer and an internet connection.
Will iATS work with my database or online fundraising solution?
Yes. iATS is the preferred donation processing partner of many leading providers of software to nonprofit organizations. This means you can process transactions directly from your donor database or website. Do I need to obtain my own credit card merchant account?
No. When you sign up with iATS, we will provide you with your own unique merchant account. There is no need for you to spend months negotiating with individual credit card companies and payment processing vendors. We take care of all that for you.
Can I have a single merchant account that services both iATS credit card processing and ACH?
Which credits cards can I accept?
iATS allows you to accept all of the major credit cards such as Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover.
What does my organization have to do to enable ACH on our iATS account?
For existing iATS Clients: Contact our Sales department in order to expand your contract to cover ACH Processing. First, we will verify the deposit account to be used for ACH processing. Then once your organization has signed the ACH agreement, it typically takes 3-4 business days for approval of the document. Once the request is approved, one of our Customer Care representatives will send you an email advising ACH has been added to your account. For New IATS Clients: Contact our Sales department where we will walk you, step-by-step, through the ACH application. The following supporting documentation may be required: Void Check of the desired deposit account or a letter from your financial institution verifying your Legal or DBA name, Routing transit number and deposit account number Official proof of nonprofit status Upon return of the required documentation, it typically takes 3-4 business days for approval. Once the request is approved, one of our Customer Care representatives will fax/email your new ACH sub-code and password.
How do we receive our funds?
Your funds are automatically deposited into your designated bank account.
How long does it take for our funds to be deposited into our bank account?
This depends on what payment methods your organization supports. What is the difference between Gross funds and Net funds?
Gross funds mean that the transaction fees have not yet been deducted. Transaction fees will be deducted monthly within the first week of the month for the prior month transactions. Net funds mean that the transaction fees have already been deducted prior to the funds deposit.
If I use iATS, can I still have my organization’s name appear on the donors’ credit card or bank statements?
Yes, your organization’s name will appear on the statement. For ACH clients, the DBA name supplied to iATS will appear, and some banks may display additional iATS business ID information. For credit card statements, the DBA name supplied to iATS will appear along with iATS contact phone number, and the initials of the state/province of your organization.
How are credit card chargebacks (disputed charges) and ACH returns handled in the iATS system?
For credit card chargebacks, the amount will be debited for your account. You will have time to respond directly to the card brand (Visa/MasterCard/American Express) to dispute it. Any Discover and American Express (Canadian) chargebacks will be handled through our team at iATS. For ACH, returns due to wrong account number, insufficient funds, etc. are posted to the iATS website for review and then debited from the clients’ weekly deposit.
Can a donor “stop” an ACH transaction once they have entered it via an online donation form?
No. The particular payment transaction cannot be stopped once it is entered and submitted via ACH, but refunds are supported for ACH. (Please see the previous question regarding ACH returns).
Can I use iATS just for ACH processing and not credit card processing, or vice-versa?
Yes, you are free to use iATS for processing your credit card transactions only, for ACH only or for both.
What are the costs and fees for using iATS?
iATS offers a simple and flat rate pricing program, which is different from most other payment processing companies. Please contact our sales department for more specific information about iATS pricing.
Why would I want to encourage our donors to donate via automated bank transfers vs. a credit card?
Recurring donors tend to have a higher lifetime value due to lower churn. About 40% of credit cards are reissued each year for various reasons, whereas constituents typically don’t change their bank account as frequently. So, recurring donors who give via their bank account (ACH) typically stay current longer than credit card donors.
Is ACH supported for “cross-border” transfers of funds where one bank is in the U.S. and the other in Canada?
Unfortunately this is not possible. If your organization has a bank account in the U.S. or Canada, you can only accept ACH transfers from donors who also have banks in the same country as yours.
What about ACH in overseas countries such as the United Kingdom and European Union?
iATS offers ACH services in the United Kingdom and European Union.
What do I need to get started?
