iATS offers a complete suite of transaction processing capabilities that are integrated with all of the major online fundraising and marketing software platforms. iATS supports all major credit cards and Automated Clearing House (ACH) for electronic funds transfer (EFT) allowing constituents to donate to an organization on a one-time or recurring basis. 

In addition, iATS offers web access to account information and reports about your transaction activity and details via our online customer portal, available to you at no additional cost.

Yes, iATS Payments fully endorses the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard. We are certified at Level 1, which is the highest possible level for data security standards.

Visa, MasterCard, American Express and other card associations mandate that merchants and service providers meet certain standards of security when they store, process and transmit cardholder data.

iATS charges an annual PCI compliance fee of $124.75 USD to nonprofit organizations located in the United States. This fee is for participation in PCI Smart, a program designed to help merchants validate PCI compliance and combat costly security breaches, and is automatically debited three months after account activation. Our goal is to help merchants avoid the types of high-profile breaches that have involved small and medium-sized organizations.

If your organization has already achieved PCI Compliance certification through another provider, simply provide your proof of certification and the annual fee will be waived.

Yes. iATS is the preferred donation processing partner of many leading providers of software to nonprofit organizations. This means you can process transactions directly from your donor database or website. No. When you sign up with iATS, we will provide you with your own unique merchant account. There is no need for you to spend months negotiating with individual credit card companies and payment processing vendors. We take care of all that for you.

For existing iATS Clients:

Contact our Sales department in order to expand your contract to cover ACH Processing. First, we will verify the deposit account to be used for ACH processing. Then once your organization has signed the ACH agreement, it typically takes 3-4 business days for approval of the document. Once the request is approved, one of our Customer Care representatives will send you an email advising ACH has been added to your account.

For New IATS Clients:

Contact our Sales department where we will walk you, step-by-step, through the ACH application. The following supporting documentation may be required:

  • Void Check of the desired deposit account or a letter from your financial institution verifying your Legal or DBA name, Routing transit number and deposit account number
  • Official proof of nonprofit status

 Upon return of the required documentation, it typically takes 3-4 business days for approval. Once the request is approved, one of our Customer Care representatives will fax/email your new ACH sub-code and password.

Your funds are automatically deposited into your designated bank account.

This depends on what payment methods your organization supports.

The following timelines are provided as a guideline:

Gross funds mean that the transaction fees have not yet been deducted. Transaction fees will be deducted monthly within the first week of the month for the prior month transactions.

Net funds mean that the transaction fees have already been deducted prior to the funds deposit.

Yes, your organization’s name will appear on the statement.  For ACH clients, the DBA name supplied to iATS will appear, and some banks may display additional iATS business ID information. For credit card statements, the DBA name supplied to iATS will appear along with iATS contact phone number, and the initials of the state/province of your organization.

For credit card chargebacks, the amount will be debited for your account. You will have time to respond directly to the card brand (Visa/MasterCard/American Express) to dispute it. Any Discover and American Express (Canadian) chargebacks will be handled through our team at iATS.


For ACH, returns due to wrong account number, insufficient funds, etc. are posted to the iATS website for review and then debited from the clients’ weekly deposit.

No. The particular payment transaction cannot be stopped once it is entered and submitted via ACH, but refunds are supported for ACH. (Please see the previous question regarding ACH returns).

Yes, you are free to use iATS for processing your credit card transactions only, for ACH only or for both.

iATS offers a simple and flat rate pricing program, which is different from most other payment processing companies. Please contact our sales department for more specific information about iATS pricing.

Recurring donors tend to have a higher lifetime value due to lower churn. About 40% of credit cards are reissued each year for various reasons, whereas constituents typically don’t change their bank account as frequently. So, recurring donors who give via their bank account (ACH) typically stay current longer than credit card donors.

Unfortunately this is not possible. If your organization has a bank account in the U.S. or Canada, you can only accept ACH transfers from donors who also have banks in the same country as yours.

iATS offers ACH services in the United Kingdom and European Union.

To qualify for a nonprofit merchant account your organization must be a registered nonprofit and may be required to provide all or some of the following documentation:

  • Confirmation of your tax-exempt status with the IRS or CRA
  • Verification of a bank account for deposits with a pre-printed void cheque
  • Financial statements to confirm your current and past financial history
